Preferences in Red Crossbill |

The map below illustrates observer estimates of cone crop abundance in areas where Red Crossbills were reported.
Participants were asked to estimate the abundance of wild foods in their postal code. Wild
foods were: cones, berries, and seeds. Individuals could rate the abundance of each wild
food as heavy, moderate, or low. Only reports with estimates of wild food abundance
were used to generate the maps.
Greater than 74% of all Red Crossbill reports came from areas where the cone crop abundance was either moderate or heavy.
The pie chart shows what Red Crossbills were feeding on when not at bird feeders.
