The map below illustrates observer estimates of cone crop abundance in areas where Red-breasted Nuthatches were reported. rbnufood.bmp (210166 bytes)
Participants were asked to estimate the abundance of wild foods in their postal code. Wild foods were: cones, berries, and seeds. Individuals could rate the abundance of each wild food as heavy, moderate, or low. Only reports with estimates of wild food abundance were used to generate the maps.

Greater than 73% of all Red-breasted Nuthatch reports came from areas where the cone crop abundance was either moderate or heavy.

The pie chart shows what Red-breasted Nuthatches were feeding on when not at bird feeders.
