ecology and identification. We will first learn about some
characteristics of birds, touch bird skull replicas and maybe even act
like a bird or two found in the park. Later we will go outside as a
group and try to identify the birds The rangers will submit our

Meet at the Audubon Center at Debs Park to explore our backyard, aka,
Debs park! There will be some hill climbing on this walk.

For this hour we will be sitting around the center to see what happens
to fly (or hop, or walk ) by. All we require is that it have
feathers!
Directions: From Pasadena, take the Pasadena Freeway (110) south, exit
on Ave. 52, then take a left onto Griffin. Watch for the Audubon
Center driveway on your left in about a 1/4 mile and drive up to the
parking lot. Activities sponsored by the Pasadena Audubon Society and
the Audubon Center at Debs Park.

Join Audubon Naturalist Ted Gilman for this citizen science effort when
he checks the bird feeders and takes a short walk in the meadows and
forest to ID and count birds. Afterwards, return to the center for hot
chocolate and report the bird sightings to the Cornell Laboratory of
Ornithology via the internet. All ages. $3 for adults and $1.50 for
children/senior members; $5 for adult and $3 for
children/senior non-members.

divided our 4,000 acres into 3 master reporting territories (Bantam,

Salato Wildlife Education Center, #1 Sportsman's Lane, Frankfort,

Come watch birds for any length of time and record your tallies on a
sheet provided by Salato. Educators will enter this data into the GBBC
database which helps provide insight into the whereabouts of more than
600 bird species! Volunteers from the Frankfort Audubon Chapter and the
Salato staff will be on hand to help beginning bird watchers and to
answer any of your bird-related questions. Bird counting will be free
to the public all day with indoor counting stations and outdoor
stations for those who love the February chill! There will be a guided
afternoon birding hike at 1:00 PM on Salato’s Habitrek Trail. Coloring
sheets and pine cone bird feeders will also be available for the little
ones to take home. To help provide habitat for our feathered friends, a
Builda-Bluebird House workshop will be offered from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM.
All birdhouses are $10 with registration required.

Wolf Lake Fish Hatchery, located 200 yards south of M-43 on Fish
Hatchery Road, about one mile west of the Kalamazoo County line,
Kalamazoo, MI
The hatchery is a great spot to find and count birds for the GBBC. We
will spend about an hour and a half walking around the dikes and woods.
Be sure to dress for the weather. The dikes are quite open and it is
usually even colder and windier there than other places, so dressing
windproof, warm, and in layers makes for a more enjoyable event. Bring
binoculars. Spotting scopes will be shared.

The public is invited to help volunteers at Refuge Headquarters
identify and count birds for the GBBC. Come for a few minutes or stay
the day; watch the feeders from indoors or walk outside. Refuge
volunteers will be on hand to help beginners identify birds and lead a
walk along the trail if the weather permits. At 1:00 PM there will be a
presentation on bird feeding by the Avian Wildlife Center with some of
their resident birds on hand to give all a close look. Free

Thomas Edison National Historical Park, Glenmont Estate, Llewelyn Park,

We will be having two ranger-led walks on each day to count birds for
the GBBC. Admission into the park is $7, under 16 get in free. You must
go to the visitor center at the main lab complex at 211 Main Street to
get a car pass into Llewelyn Park. If it is raining we will view and
count the birds from the conservatory of Glenmont Estate where Mina
Edison would have done a lot of her own bird watching. Bring
binoculars.

Woodford Cedar Run! Before heading outside, stop at the education

Then head out onto the Refuge to explore the Pines and discover its
magnificent birds, all the while being a "citizen scientist." Refuge

bluff of Lake Michigan Please dress to be outdoors! Please bring
binoculars, field guides, spotting scopes, notepads, and pencils.
Some of these items will be available to borrow.

Join an expert birder as he introduces the GBBC and explains how you
can get involved.
