Join a Great Backyard Bird Count event in your area! We suggest confirming the location and time with the local contact in advance, and asking whether reservations are required. If there is no event listed for your area, you can get ready for the Great Backyard Bird Count by watching our slideshow on a home computer.

Alabama

Meet at Starbucks Coffee Shoppe on Parkway East in Roebuck for coffee (dutch treat) and then visit two nearby city parks known to host a large number of birds, including ducks and kingfishers. After touring the two parks, the group will visit nearby 1,011 acre Ruffner Mountain Nature Center to finish our City Birds program. We will take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count at one of the city parks and report the results.

Take a three-mile round trip natural history hike along the Great South Beach, better known today as Fire Island. Examine all aspects of winter beach life: seashells, birds,botany, sand and more. Learn to identify coastal birds, and help create a tally for the GBBC.Dress appropriately for the weather. Wilderness Visitor Center is open 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M. with knowledgeable staff to help you identify local barrier island birds.
