What is a Great Backyard Bird Count Ambassador?
An ambassador is anyone who wants to help spread word about the Great Backyard Bird Count. You can help however you like—from an action as simple as putting up posters in around town to contacting local media or leading a workshop. The amount of time and involvement is completely up to you. For ideas about how you can help, see our web page, “Spread the Word!”
Why Do We Need Ambassadors?
The success of the Great Backyard Bird Count depends on engaging people from every location in the United States and Canada to count birds for at least 15 minutes during the four-day count. Scientists can use this amazing record to see how birds are faring from year to year. The more people who participate, the more complete and useful the count will be.
It sounds simple, but it won’t happen unless people like you take the message to your communities. Help ensure that your town is well represented by encouraging people to count birds—even if for only 15minutes!
Can I Really Make a Difference?
Yes! Every checklist matters. Each observation contributes to a more complete picture of where the birds are. In the process, we hope that everyone has fun participating and seeing how their birds fit in with what others are reporting from near and far.
The results are tangible. Visit our GBBC results page to see how many checklists people submitted from your town last year. Your efforts can help boost this year’s numbers! You might even put your town in the running for "checklist champ!"
How Do I Sign Up?
It’s easy—just fill out our online ambassador form.
Thank you!
