Golden Eagle
A good exercise in identifying by flight silhouette: a Common Raven and a juvenile Golden Eagle. The Common Raven has the characteristic crow fingers and distinctive V shaped or graduated tail. The much larger Golden Eagle has a charactaristic bulge in the wing by the secondary feathers. White in the tail and wing distinguish the bird as a juvenile. One or two Golden Eagles are seen each winter in the midcoast area of Maine. Northern Ravens are their constant companions as the Goldens soar and roll above the Georges River.
