Here at Audubon and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, we're gearing up for the Great Backyard Bird Count coming up February 15-18, 2008.  Join us here for news and notes as we prepare for the count, enjoy the count weekend, and start looking at results after the counting is over.

Can't wait 'til tomorrow!

My bird feeders are full, my checklist and camera are ready, my boys (a cub scout and a boy scout) are ready, too! The weather looks like it will cooperate !

GBBC count data automatically recorded on e_Bird

Can you make it easier to use data contributed to GBBC? I contribute data to GBBC, Project Feeder Watch, My Yard Counts, e-Bird and other projects. I use e-Bird data for my own purposes. It shouldn'b be difficult (a little programming effort, perhaps) to automatically have my GBBC entries , etc. transfereed to the e-Bird data base so I do not have to enter the data multiple times. Is this in your planning?

this past saturday-here in the Hudson Valley

Hi I put in my counts last weekend but just santed to add an update- I live in the valley on the Westchester side of Bear Mountain- suddenly about 11:am this past Saturday- I notice a flock of mixed bird groups inthe trees and bittersweet bushes in my front yard- what can I say- we bird lovers get excited!- this group had 4 Robins, 6juncos, four cedar and 3 Bohemian Waxwings, and 4 eastern blue birds, 6blue jays and 2cardinals ( male and female) along with a few crows a peregrin falcon flying over head and a group of 6 chickadees. I could not get my binaculars fast enough- I have lived in ths area for over 20 years and it has been rare to see an eastern blue bird here later in early summer we do have hummingbirds, woodpeckers, doves and always lots of geese-but it is rare to see that blue bird. As I right this on Tuesday - ihave just got through counting 16 wild turkeys in the back hill-my yard extends into state land called the Hudson Highlands Park so I have a great time checking and have for many years- the day before we had 8 inches of snow - so I was wondering if that had anything to do with the pattern of these different speicies all passing through together? It was like having a feather rainbow after the storm - the colors were a beautiful sight to see1 by all
